Relapsing Remitting Ms Considered Temporary Or Permanent Disability For Pa Medical Assistance?

Hi, I’m in the process of filling out all the papers for medical assistance for Pennsylvania. The one I need to send to my doctor has a section about temporary or permanent disability and why. Of course I can let my doc do this and she could change it but I’m trying to send to her almost ready to sign the way she likes forms so I can get them signed. Honestly, I don’t know what I should put — my rr ms is getting worse, but thank God it is still rr. My treatments are more involved and I’m not working, and it feels permanent but I don’t know. I’ve never filled this out before and could use some advice.

Is My Volunteer Experience Appropriate For Medical School?

I volunteer as a hospital advocate in the Emergency Department at various hospitals in the Columbus area. I went through 40 hours of training to work as an advocate for sexually assaulted patients who come into the ER, and I am on call three times a month, with each shift being 8 hours. In addition to that I also take calls from the 24 hour Rape Crisis Hotline for the Columbus area. As an advocate, my job is to emotionally support the patient, answer any of the questions they might have regarding the procedural technicalities involved in caring for patients who have been sexually assaulted, as well as talk to their family members if they come to the ER.
I love what I do, and regardless of the answer I probably won’t quit this volunteer position. But is this something that would be looked upon favorably by medical schools? I also volunteer at the free clinic in Columbus once a week for about 4-5 hours each time.
I only ask this because I realized that most of the volunteers in this organization are training to be social workers or counselors, not doctors, and I was wondering if maybe this wasn’t the right “kind” of volunteer work for pre-medical students…

Did My Medical Doctor Touch Me Inappropriately?

I went to the doctor because I was having issues with anxiety. It was a family md that i had never been to before. My weight was recorded, has asked me a few questions, gave me a questionnaire about my symptoms. After that he asked me if I had any tenderness in my breast. I said no. He had me lay on my back on the table and proceeded to feel on my breast anyway. Is there any reason he should have done this seeing as how I went in to be seem for anxiety?

Please Help Me!! Medical Students, Doctors, Or People Who Know Alot About Health!?

EVERYNIGHT, when it’s time to go to bed, i lay on my side and instantly my arm goes numb. So i turn and lay on my other side, and that arm goes numb too. It starts in my shoulder and moves down all the way to my fingers. It sort of aches a slight bit, and gets tingly. Then i’m up all night. I have to lay straight like a stick to get to sleep.
Another thing that happens is my lower back, on the right side, i get sharp pains. Right above my hip bone. And if i try to rub it, it doesnt help. It feels more internal if that makes sense. Like it can’t be rubbed. Its the worst back pain, and nothing i do relives it. Stretching, taking aspirin or something, heating pads… nothing. The pain comes about 2-4 times a month. And the next day it will be gone. If i put weight on my right side (like when i walk) It hurts the most, and i have a horrible limp.
Do i have a pinched nerve in my spine? Can someone tell me what is wrong?
I have been to the Chiropractor but he just cracked my back and it was gone for about a month, then it came back. Both arms and my back. BTW im only 17

Medical Advice Needed?

Okay this is going to be long because I have a lot to explain.
I’m 24 years old (female) currently weighing 106 and 5’3 in height. I’m worried that I have something seriously wrong with me.
About 2 1/2 years ago I weighed 145 pounds, and I really didn’t like myself at all. I did one of the worst things a person can do, which is take diet pills. I was taking hydroxy-cut for a year, lost 15 pounds. I hit a plateau, so decided I needed cardio. For about 6-7 months, i’d work out a half hour-45 minutes a day, losing another 10 pounds in the span of 7 months. My goal was 115, and I really wanted to make it, so I switched from hydroxycut to slimquick. I did lose the extra 5 pounds, but the pills were giving me major anxiety, so I decided I needed to quit pills all together and just work on my eating habits and cardio to maintain my weight (I didn’t want to lose more, I was happy at 115).
I haven’t taken any pills since August (almost 4 months now), and I did stop working out, but the weight is still coming off. I went from 115 to 106 without dong anything. From September to beginning of November, my weight stayed around 110 which was fine. I went for a check up last month, the doctor said my weight was fine, just don’t lose anymore. She did a complete physical, minus the blood work because honestly, between fear and switching insurance providers, I just haven’t gone for the blood work yet. Everything else she checked was good, though.
The past couple of months i’ve been noticing weird things.. For instance, sometimes I find it very hard to take a deep breath, and i’ll hear wheezing (usually at night time). At first I thought maybe asthma, but wouldn’t the doctor of heard that during my physical? I also have bad anxiety, so that could be another cause (I did tell my doctor about my anxiety, she refused to give me medication because she doesn’t want someone my age addicted).
The weekend that just passed, two scary things happened. On Friday I went shopping with some friends, and about 4 hours into it, I felt like I was going to pass out. My friend rushed to get me water and then we went to eat, and afterwards I was fine. The next day I went to the casino with my boyfriend, and it was worse. I ate around 3 pm but then we didn’t get around to eating again until 10 pm, and by the time 10 pm came, I felt like I was going to die. The waiter in the restaurant rushed to bring me orange juice and soda, then after I ate a bowl of soup I was so full. I ended up having a milkshake just to get my calorie count up.
I’m not sure what this could be, but it worries me. Another thing is, I bruise very easily. I accidentally hit my leg on the car door, and the bruise covered the entire front of my calve, turning red first, then black and blue, now finally just an outline. In the past I was told I am anemic, which i’m sure I still am, but could that really cause all of this?
And then lastly, tonight I got on my scale, and was so scared to see i’m now 106 lbs. I do have a new job so maybe that’s keeping me more active, i’m not sure. But other than that, i’m still eating regularly (tonight I had mcdonalds chicken nuggets meal and a milkshake). I don’t take the pills anymore, and I don’t work out. I still have a lot of flabby areas (like my stomach) so it’s not like I look like a complete twig either. My parents tell me I don’t look sickly skinny, but they also didn’t want me to go under 110 lbs.
I know that if I want to know 100% sure what’s wrong I need to go to the doctor, but I need to prepare myself first by having suggestions of what it can be. The one thing I fear is cancer, and I know weight loss is a major symptom.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

Medical Coding/billing?

was talking with a family member and she said the health care industry is coming out with a new coding thing called “ICD-10″ and this is going to cause HUGE changes. I was a little confused because I only caught the last few minutes of the conversation… but she was going on and on about how now is the time to get into medical coding because employers willl be looking for coders and they are going to be high in demand. I’m trying to find schools and classes I could take…
I’ve been trying to research the pros and cons because this sounds like something I could picture myself doing. Does anyone have any scources, or additional input that could help me out?
